Hey, everyone. Welcome in. Betsperts Golf here for our first look at the final regular season event of the 2026 calendar. The Wyndham Championship Sedgefield Country Club coming off of a boots on the ground week for our guy Ron Klos. [HANDLE] was out there doing the Lord's work at the Rocket. How are we doing? Yeah, doing well. It was a fun week. Legs are a little bit tired.
Thor, give him credit. I really liked him going into the week. I went a little more at the top of the board, Xander, and obviously we know what happened with Cam Young. I couldn't make a putt, but, yeah, Thor is, another young guy coming off Corbin's win again, really exciting for, for American golf. And yeah, I love the course, I think the course, Tyler Rae, the designer deserves a lot of credit, going into the week. Visually, it was looking a lot different, a lot better, but I think it just played a lot better.
And, the players kind of backed that up. There's so many areas of your game you had to be sharp at. We saw a lot of really good total drivers on that leaderboard. Xander, Hojgaard, Thompson, Gerard, even Cantlay, who, again, played pretty soft down the stretch there, laying up on holes he kind of should have been attacking. But, the bunkers... The fescue areas, the greens were really penal and, it was, it was a fun watch and it was fun to be there.
Yeah. It was great to, to have you there. And I love those weeks and, you're out there doing some good stuff. I agree. I thought the course was, was great. We got to an eighteen under, winner. We thought, adjusting for par losing the two par fives that we could still be in the high teens. And we got there, but like overall, There were some, there were some holes that were going to test you like the Fescue, like, it mattered.
I think it was a significantly better test than I was pre-renovation and, interested to see what happens there. I know obviously right now we're not set to come back for the rocket, but there's so much up in the air schedule wise. On the PGA Tour right now. So I would not be surprised if that's layered back in somewhere. I know the rocket won't be involved as of now, but we'll see what happens. Yeah, the Cam Young stuff was painful, having fairly decent, I wouldn't say chalky, but fairly popular for someone that was at the top of the board.
We were both there. If you look at the live leaderboard here on Betsperts Golf and look at some of the putting splits on Cam, and again, the ball striking was great, but he made 40.9 percent of his putts from five to ten feet, which is just not it when you see the guys above him you see some pretty poor performances. But the guys towards the at the top are hovering around 70 percent plus inside ten feet you see all these guys at the top clearing 90 percent when you get down to Cam 82 percent significantly below the top of the field. So made some longer ones earlier in the week look like we're okay. But just these very makeable putts these birdie ranges where these are birdie putts for him when he is throwing darts. He was just electric at times tee to green and then just, could not make those putts, which is pretty frustrating.
Love the new additions. If you've not used our live leaderboard at Betsperts Golf, you should. And again, you have not used it. You may not have noticed, but we turned on basically the faucet here there's so much live information here so many metrics have been added in the last week or two just being able to see this live as it's happening up the course is playing just a great addition to I've used in the Tour app or for me like sometimes the broadcast is so poor and I really want to see like Cam wasn't a part of the broadcast yesterday for the most part and I went out once Cam missed the birdie on one I went out And started doing some practice on my own and played, but I wanted to look on TourCast on the app and watch a little bit of Cam this in conjunction with the, the apps to live track, I think is a great sense of how the course is playing that day relative to other days. So definitely check out the live leaderboard if you have not done so. Yeah, it's just a great addition. So, on the Sedgefield, get rolling off his feet. Ice up not in the not in the twenty nine year old twenty nine years old anymore Ron those knees are gonna be for a couple days they're gonna be barking at you a little bit. So more information here soon on Sedgefield kind of I wouldn't say it's solved Handicap Ron. But we know what it takes to get the job done at Sedgefield. Another Donald Ross track, another par 70, similar to what we saw last week before we jump into the fields or anything like that. Tell the listeners and viewers what we need to know about Sedgefield Country Club. Yeah, it's one of the most predictive courses on tour.
And, like you said, it really hasn't changed much over the years. It's another week with only two par fives. One of the just the key things about just the layout is you have eight par fours under 450 yards. So I think regarding the Rabbit Hole tool, it's a great week to kind of get in there and look at that, 400 to 450 yard range. See which guys kind of play those shorter par fours better. Kind of one of the highest rates of wedges and short irons on tour.
You have about 30 percent of shots come specifically from the 150 to 175 yard range. And I guess, just even starting off the tee, it's very positional, a lot of forced layups. Drivers are used only 56 percent of the time here. So definitely one of the more or less than driver courses. You are rewarded for hitting fairways a little different than Detroit because we have Bermuda rough. And so, wayward tee shots, guys who get a little more aggressive are going to have to deal with.
And it's not super long, but it's again, Bermuda doesn't have to be long to be, penal, very unpredictable. A lot of flyers, knucklers that you hit out of this type of rough, so. Yeah, the tree-lined fairways, again, another similarity to Detroit, will cause you tough angles into greens if you get out of position off the tee. And then you get into short games. Short games are actually the most challenging part of this course.
Another Donald Ross course, like you said, elevated, tricky, green complexes, and Kind of, if you if you stick to the game plan, if you, less than driver off the tee down with your wedges, that's the easy part. But then it gets tougher as you get closer, as many Donald Ross courses do. And, guys who can putt here, putting is kind of looking at the numbers very predictive here. So good putters tend to do better. And I think we've, we've kind of seen that with some of the past winners. Obviously we've had a couple of guys recently who have not been great putters with, at the time, at least Cam Young last year, Aaron Rai the year before. But then we see, we see Kevin Kisner, JT Poston, Snedeker's one here. And so, yeah, it's kind of a mix of, sticking to your game plan off the tee, looking for really good wedge players, and then guys who, there's a lot of Carolina feel here. It's in North Carolina, but we've seen guys like Ben Griffin, Ryan Gerard, a lot of local guys who are playing this week who just grew up around Bermuda grass, Bermuda greens, Bermuda rough. They're very used to hitting. Definitely a week I'm looking at guys who have a lot of familiarity with Bermuda grass. I love this course, I'm, I'm interested to see where it pulled into the future.
I would love to see. Stronger fields here, I think it's a, these are interesting tests. I do love these, whether you get to. Pete Dye, we have a lot of less than driver Pete Dye tracks. Donald Ross, same thing where it just gets a little tougher as you get closer. Yeah, there are low scores out there if you're absolutely dialed in. If you're painting fairways and your irons are on, you're going to give yourself a lot of scorable looks. But like you said, these green complexes are tricky. You saw when I'm hovering into the putting situation here. Three putt. It's happening here significantly more often than you're getting a standard PGA Tour track your one putt make percentage significantly lower Donald Ross greens are kind of a staple of all the Ross designs. So yeah I think it's just a it's a fun it's a fun track and we typically get good leaderboards. And again with its current place in the schedule there's a lot to play for the end of the season you're trying to jockey for position for guys that are in the playoffs and trying to get in a better spot heading into next week and St. Jude or some people that aren't and really trying to position themselves in like everything in the next year or so matters. Because you're really trying to play the long game to get yourself in the right spot moving forward with all that's going on in the tour. So is a spot where.
Yes. Course history matters to Ron's point familiarity here. I think matters. I think it's a good week to look at the comp courses. We have those here listed on the course stats page too. And I do think Detroit now with the renovation again, a longer. Par seventy, but with the demands of the par four scoring. I do think it's a nice addition to the comp course section here, but I think these are all.
Really strong again we don't have a lot of Potomac. But I think Potomac would check the box there very much again TPC River Highlands positional off the tee Colonial with the renovation of Colonial like that call out here too. So I think it's a good way to look at comp courses too. So reason like you mentioned like around the green being one of the more difficult tests here It's true. But when you have like, what do you do with that? When you have a situation like this, when we look approach greens in regulation being significantly higher than a standard PGA Tour event, are you factoring in around the green when you're looking at like thinking that in general, we're gaining around the green here or hitting greens in regulation at, 6 percent higher than a standard tour event. Are you weighing that in the model this week? I always weigh it. Whenever greens in regulation is this high, though, it's always going to be less. But when I do weigh it, I'll specifically this week focus on Bermuda, play from Bermuda rough, short grass areas. So I'll make sure I have that Bermuda filter on for the rough. But yeah, I'm weighing putting a little heavier this week. But around the green is still like if you're playing around the green here, you're gonna be on the lower half of the leaderboard anyways. So, I'm still kind of minimal comparatively. Yeah.
You see here from a distribution standpoint around the green short grass is common here. It's like, I don't wanna say sneaky elevation, but there's a lot of like, The course has some personality. You've got some role to things here. You have some uphill approaches. You have some false fronts, which is also some very standard Donald Ross design. So it is a situation where it can be a little bit tricky, but it's good to know when you're looking at the around the green stuff, I do think looking at short grass, and I agree with Ron, like typically am not looking at grass splits from an around the green standpoint I think we or like on approach but I do think if you I will continue to harp on this it matters if you've not played on Bermuda it is such a different beast than if you grew up playing on bent grass or even like Poa like bluegrass around the green rough like that like Bermuda is different. So looking at guys that do have success, I would like to split that out a little bit. If I'm looking at around the green play, I do want to look specifically at Bermuda because it is a unique, different test, just spongy and, Not all lies are the same. It is different. So sometimes I think you can overfit with grass types. But I think that looking at Bermuda does matter quite a bit. Let's look at the odds board here.
Decent field. Feels like a lot of the guys that were in play last week, even some of the stronger names, remain using our odds board here at Sharpstack, courtesy of our friends over at 4for4. We've got some, they got to populate here, but we'll just kind of buzz through what we have here for DraftKings. For now, we've got some in Kalshi too. I know we got odds here recently in the last hour or so for FanDuel. Some of the other, BetRivers and bet365, those books have opened up.
Cam Young in the field, defending champ. Kind of that Carolina feel, as Ron mentioned earlier. Again, obviously, he's from New York, but is very familiar on the Bermuda grass. Patrick Cantlay back in the field as well. Jackson Koivun in the field here as well, was here last year, played very well. Ben Griffin, again, this is a lot of Carolina feel for the most part here in the top quarter.
Of the board, JT back at Wyndham, not an annual stop, came here a couple years ago and he was trying to force his way into the playoffs. Almost chipped in on the second hole to get himself there. Matt NeSmith, Hideki, Ryan Gerard, Aaron Rai, champ just a couple years ago. Tom Kim, former champ here as well. Alex Fitzpatrick, Michael Brennan, another Wake Forest kid. Keegan Bradley, Brooks Koepka, Harris English, Keith Mitchell.
Again, kind of South Carolina feel, but a lot of the Carolina boys here still as well. Spieth, Mac Meissner, Doug Ghim, Alex Smalley, Duke Grad, Jordan Smith, Matt Wallace, Alex Noren, Ben Kohles, and Blades Brown, kind of all short of sixty here on DraftKings. So again, a spot where you can get a down the board winner because of the layout and the demand of the course where Can't really separate with driver and distance. You can't really bomb and gouge this place because you do really need to play from the fairway. But it does really help. So it is a spot where it is a little bit tricky.
It does bring some longer shots into play here as you shop around on a Monday morning, which we recommend. If you want to jump into Betsperts Golf and the Rabbit Hole, you have not already done so. You can get a sense of who's playing well.
Rolling form, you can mess around the timeframe here. You can get a sense of recent finishing positions for folks as well. Guys that have been taking some time off or guys that are playing every week. And then also you can kind of dig into course history, which is something people love to look at. You just want to look at here. Cam Young is your defending champ.
Had not played before. You can get down into, Ben Griffin, Davis Thompson, JT Poston, guys that are coming annually and playing pretty well. You get a sense here looking at course history here. Obviously, you can get down into, Ben Griffin, Davis Thompson, JT Poston, guys that are coming annually and playing pretty well. Shake all this out in the Rabbit Hole as well, which we want to see specific. Course history here, you can get this here.
Obviously, we know the Webb Simpson, you named his daughter Wyndham. I never won, but loves another North Carolina guy. He's here all the time. The Wyndham Pro-Am following, it's massive. I don't know if he's got his entire family out there, but, people locally love Wyndham. He lets his wife carry the bag for, I don't know, for the week, but for a little bit there.
So, you can get into all the course history stuff if you want here in the tournament cheat sheet. Yeah, really, really quick on this. So I usually post on Twitter. The course history. I didn't do that last week. Detroit was a completely different course. I didn't really value course history that much last week. But yeah, I think a lot of people don't know that the tournament cheat sheet, the course history is all there as well. So you can easily pull it up every week. And what's more, in the Rabbit Hole, in this view, you can put in Sedgefield, you can put in all years, and you can view strokes gained here as well. So it's basically what I do and what I post every week. But you can do it yourself at any time. It's all in the Rabbit Hole. And with the tournament cheat sheet, it's basically all there for you. So just a heads up for people who, if I don't post that every week, that it's also in here. Yeah, and you can mess around and I looked at five years, but you can go all the way back to eight years. If you want to see, you can see cumulative, what their average strokes gained is in that again, you're going to get some small sample stuff, percentage of rounds gained. I love to look at too, because I think it's, in a piece of consistency, how frequently are you gaining and just. Playing better than the field in this event, you can do it all here by looking at the course specifics. You can also load the comp courses.
We touched on that being a pretty good week to that to look at that. You can also go in and layer in, which I like to do. This is kind of what I'm going to capture course history. I'm going to lay it into the. Comp course section, and you get a sense of. Last five years, who's played best on comp courses for Sedgefield and get that all right here. Pretty, pretty straightforward.
Love that. So let's look at this. We're here right now. We're going to last five years. Comp courses and Sedgefield together. Patrick Cantlay is the best in the field, separating a little bit, too, from his peers. I'm just never clicking Patrick Hanley. I saw your tweet, too, where he's not being aggressive. It's right there for you. Go get it. And he's just kind of playing for a top five, playing for a top ten.
I don't know. Maybe that's unfair, but never a name for me. So the eighth hole, it was playing three hundred and forty four yards yesterday. Xander gets up there. Xander hits a driver. He's being aggressive. He hits it to the fringe. He's twenty two feet for Eagle. And then Cantlay lays up one sixty eight. And he's got like still, one something going in and he ends up parring the hole just like he did the day before.
And so. I don't know, and I don't, it's, it's, it's weird because, Xander and, and Cantlay always used to play together and practice rounds and they did not, I did not see them together once, the first few days last week. So, I don't know if they're just taking a break from each other, but just, just interesting to note there. Seeing other people. Yeah. You can go through, for this, what's interesting.
And again, to each their own, in terms of how you lay out the comp courses. For me, when I'm looking at the comp courses, personally, when I'm doing this exercise, I'm more likely to look at tee to green or ball striking because I want to pull out the variance of putting, the specifics in this case of Bermuda, Donald, Ross greens because the comp courses aren't necessarily agronomy related. They are a little bit, but it's not the specifics of Why their comp courses, in my opinion, right? You're going to have some different aesthetics, but just in terms of what that actual course demands tee to green, I think is a little bit more relevant. So I think that's. Typically how I'm leveraging comp courses to each their own.
I think looking at all of it is important. But I do think that for me, I want to kind of pull out the putting variance of it. Because of the specific grass type and demand of the specific course, like, this is a. Undulating green where the three-putt rate is high and we have Bermuda greens. So that's not what we have at Waialae for instance right that's not what we have at Colonial Harbour Town those are really small flat greens that's not the putting test that we have here. So for me I do think the comp course thing matters. But I think it's better through the lens personally of tee to green or ball striking. Because it's really the best of trying to replicate what we have here. So question in the chat Aaron Rai on Bermuda that's a good question let's find out Aaron Rai obviously won here two years ago in a not a notoriously strong putter. But I think he's improved overall we see here last twelve months on Bermuda twenty round sample he's lost point one nine strokes on average if you want to go back and say three years on Bermuda It was really bad. Fifty four. I think it's really kind of the same.
If you look, it's just the bar change. It looks like it's worse, but it's kind of in line where he's been the last calendar year. Minus point one eight on a fifty four round sample. If you want to look, see what he's done. Probably not a lot of Bermuda this year, but eight rounds this year. He's gained point two, so he's fine. I would say probably slightly below field average, but not.
Someone I would chase for that not someone I would avoid for that Jackson hopefully that helps Donnie what's up first round leader market do we bet first round leader ronald postos in Discord first round leader bets I do not bet first round leaders I do like what you're talking about here top 20 and ties I do think there's a I think there's an edge to be had in terms of first round splits I do think that finishing positions especially if you can grab ties to include are bets that I do like to make if I find an outlier first round leaders I think are like lottos personally they're fun they're fun sweats. So to each their own. But I would be very careful in terms of your weekly allocation in terms of I would personally structure it less than I will what your outrights are. Because it's just it's it's. So tough like you can kind of nail the handicap and have a guy like seven under and you were kind of right directionally. But then just someone else goes out and fires a nine under we're just we're taking seventy to a whole variance which is pretty extreme and like burying it down to eighteen holes which is A lot. Yeah, I've got I've got two words for you. Peter Malnati last week, so correct. Yeah, right. Yeah, so they're fun. But I like, I do like the finishing position stuff and I do agree typically, which we see in the data, especially like it's not always going to be the case, but we saw it all last week. Those early those 61s were all in the morning. Know those greens don't get beat up as much sometimes the wind's laying down be a little bit softer I would kind of look in the morning edge. But you can go into the Rabbit Hole I've done this and shared those videos often like you can go in here you can grab filter by condition you can grab round one and. Then you can go into the miscellaneous metric section in the views and you can excuse me you can get can get AM/PM scoring. So these tee times will populate when they're in here. So you can get a sense of like hey are there big gaps when you look at like someone's baseline AM/PM scoring over the course of a year I mean I think that's if there's a big difference in that to me that's a little bit of signal like these are Human beings, like some of us do our best work in the morning. Some of our do our best work in the afternoon, like. Eighteen rounds of Chandler Blanchet.
Like the guy just doesn't like to sleep in on Thursdays. He wants to get out there and get it done. Like, this is a pretty big gap. So when you, I think when you like a guy already, you've handicapped a situation where like, I'm on this guy. I like him in this spot. I like him on this course. He's got an early tee time and there's some AM/PM wave splits here that are maybe actionable.
I think that's a spot where for me, I'm not going first round leader that I'm going like first round leader, top. With, with ties. So it's a, it's an interesting question, Donnie. And I highly recommend looking at the splits. Like this is, I think, a decent enough, play around with it. Again, I think it could be a little bit statistically noisy on a smaller sample.
And I also wouldn't want to go back too far. But I think if you just kind of looked at 2026 or even the last twelve months, I think it's it's a decent way. And again, I would I wouldn't do it simply off the AM/PM. I would personally want to like the guy already based off of the other handicap work that I did. So any thoughts there on. Yeah. Look, look at this real quick. So go to, go to finish position like that. The viewer just shows finished position. Cause I don't think a lot of people realize what, the power that we have in here, like the amount of data that you can look at. And so, yeah, clear everything else out of here. The comp stuff just made my need to just, yeah. And then go to round one. So you're going to go to the filter menu.
And when you filter by round, so it will if you're betting top 20s by round, like round one, who's going to finish top 20, this will give you the rate of finish position just by round. So most people think, oh, well, this is just for tournament. No, you can actually go by round in here and see, okay, over the last year, who's got the best average finish position? Who's got the most top 20s after round one? And so, again, like I said, I don't think many people know this is in here, but if you do round scoring and you do not like just first round leaders and you want top Twenties if this is all in here yep finishing positions there it's a great use case for that right you get a sense of who's really struggled who plays themselves out of position this is kind of the bottom of the board when you're looking at compared to the DraftKings price but it's a great use of that too and where's the ceiling like Again, I don't know that I would lean into. First round leader percentage being predictive. But it's here see how often that's happened as well. You can mess around again with the timeframe. I'm just looking at. You can look at it with the comp course to the comp course lens if you wanted, but just overall, this is, this is here for you. So you can build a little. First round leader model with. Average finish, first-round leader percentage, top 20 percentage, the round splits thing that we did, all those different mechanics are there for you to pull. So hopefully that helps. All right, let's reset. What are some other ways that we want to look at Wyndham and how to handicap things this week? Yeah, I think off the tee, I think you'd agree this is a less than driver type week where you want to kind of narrow it down maybe even a few, it is, it is kind of one of the ultimate positional courses. So, if you want it to add, kind of that, mixed category where it's both just remove all lesson driver it's probably a good way to do it as well but yeah just kind of getting an overall picture of who plays these positional courses better you could go through the short course category thing as well if you want to mix that up but I think this is a good look see who plays well not just off the tee but who whether you want to look at ball striking as well here I think there's a lot of ways you can go about it yeah Ron read my mind done this together long enough to know yeah you're looking at off the tee less than driver mix so basically taking out any courses that are driver having anything where you're going to get 80 percent plus driver usage and bombing away yes guys are going to use their driver here so less than driver doesn't mean no driver but we also have mixed so you're basically when you're kind of around field average and again strategy is going to be very player specific you guys are going to be like yeah what I'm okay chewing off a little bit more in this hole I'm going to take driver and let it go but I do think anytime you're looking at this I wouldn't just be looking at off the tee strokes gained numbers I want to think about how that plays itself out say throughout the bag but really from a ball striking tee to green standpoint because we're talking about the impact of using less than driver to get yourself to the green so it's a ball striking thing to me I'd like to do ball striking over tee to green because I want to take out the around the green variance again just don't want someone to be punished for around green play that might not be representative like you think about we touched on here Bermuda around the green, short grass runoffs around the green. So if I look at this through the lens of tee to green, less than driver, I'm bringing into play maybe some thick grass runoff, something bluegrass rough.
I'm thinking of thick rough. So pulling out total, pulling out tee to green, and just looking at ball striking is really kind of what I think we're looking to get here. So you can see the last... Six months in these situations, Alex Fitzpatrick is your ball striking leader. Brooks Koepka, Austin Smotherman. Maybe there's a first round leader Smotherman thing there, and he was popping in some of that stuff.
Cam Young, Michael Brennan, Ben Kohles, Joel Dahmen, Jordan Smith, Jackson Koivun, all gaining more than a stroke ball striking in this mixed less than driver off the tee spot, which I think is a really good place to look at. Ron looked at shorter, mentioned short. Think that's in here too again you can mess around with scoring conditions course length field strength I think these are kind of starter buckets for the week. But I think you can look at I don't know even just pulling out long courses here looking at short very short and average see how this kind of plays out in the last I'm gonna go 2026 see everything that's happened in this calendar year on shorter golf courses Again, this kind of coincides a little bit with the less than driver stuff, but not perfectly. This might capture some stuff that we may be missing there. Your best guys to the green here are Jackson Koivun, Cam Young, kind of separating. Hideki, Ben Kohles are all at least a shot above the field in these setups.
Alex Fitzpatrick, Ryo Hisatsune, Tom Kim, Doug Ghim, Brooks, all point nine better tee to green here as well. Ball striking is probably going to look mostly the same. Although, if you looked, Hideki is getting a lot of this from some of his short game stuff. Ball striking is kind of falling back a little bit there. Koivun, Cam Young, Smotherman, Kohles, Fitz, Smith, Mitchell are your ball striking leaders. So some overlap there, which I think makes sense.
Important pieces to start and I think it's a good way to look at things this week I think it's another week for par four scoring run because again the par 70 stuff we don't get a ton of par 70 stuff or tracks on tour and again similar to like thinking through how you have use of data wise but really what we're trying to do with the data is hone in on the par force so I think when you look at the par 70 filter, you're bringing in how they performed on the par threes and par fives that we can, even though there are fewer than of them, I think really what we're trying to do is hone in on how they play in the par fours. So now that you have strokes gained par four data in here, and again, to your point, we had that smaller range of, the Four fifties range, whereas last week we had four that were five hundred plus with some longer ones. This one's a little bit tighter, fewer of those. I think honing in on the strokes gained stuff is a better use than looking at par 70 personally, so. Same notes.
We kind of have a couple of guys at the top that are popping on the par four stuff. Cam and Jackson Koivun are gaining par fours at a higher rate than the field. Doug Ghim, Patrick Cantlay, Ben Kohles, Alex Smalley, Blades Brown are more than a half stroke better than everyone else. Tom Kim, Davis Thompson up here as well. Again, this is, I think, an important piece of the puzzle this week, having only two par fives and two par fives with pretty high birdie rates where you're Everyone's getting there on the par fives or, like those are birdie holes this week. So I'm being able to separate on the par fours.
Anything here that you want to touch on? Yeah, just the 400 to 450 category. I think if you start by that, eight holes this week, almost half the holes are going to be from this range, so. Just another, way to look at it, trying to be as course specific as possible. I think Tom Kim made a pretty decent jump from just regular par four to this range. So, and yeah, Fitzpatrick, he's got enough sample size in there, thirty four rounds here.
So, again, he's a guy who hasn't played in a couple of weeks, but, depending on how much you weigh time off, which I don't, I think know I do looking at it both ways this is a predictive course he's never played here so you have to take that into account but I think he's definitely a name you can think of this week and go to yeah that's those are tough those are tough things for sure we've seen guys basically come here and their second time I don't know where and when which we already saw a couple of those we're looking at the tournament cheat sheet earlier yeah so I think this is an important piece this week is to look at the strokes gained par fours and birdie rates, right? Like you need to, your winner, if you're thinking about using this to pick a winner, you got to think of, of ceiling and, having the ability to spike and, and make birdies at a pretty high rate too. So I'm going to look at this. I think this is, an important piece too, is who can make birdies on these par fives. Hooper around back never heard of you've not made a lot of birdies. But good for you're in the field you're playing a pro golf tournament. So I'm not keep my butt if we play golf I know that. So yeah those are some pieces what else you want to look at anything else in the view section before we wrap thought Jim if he was in the chat might like the first round leader stuff. Because Jim's a big first round leader guy. So yeah a lot of tools here for you appreciate you hanging out with us yeah I think we're good I mean I think there's whether you want to go and look at down raw screen specifically or just difficult putting greens we have both those options available. But I think it's Definitely probably want to take a look at putting. You want, three-putt percentage.
You want guys who have low numbers, who are good lag putters. And, yeah, use the course facts right there. We'll kind of, use that to be kind of your guiding way to, what really matters here. So definitely weighing putting, like I said earlier, a little more than usual this week. A rule of thumb for me, for people that find this to be again, I'm not saying this is right. I'm just telling you what I do with it to each their own.
The beauty of the Rabbit Hole and how you choose to model and Ron and I do things different. And like, Ron and I do things very different than like how Andy models, right? Andy and I on Tuesday and bring up Andy's model and it's like. He's very minimal looking at different stats. So that's the beauty of this, right? It doesn't make anyone right or wrong personally for a rule of thumb, just because I know this is sometimes tricky and can be confusing for people in a situation like this, when this says strokes gained very difficult for me, if I want to look at, I decided I want to look at putting this week when I see very difficult, I want to look at then strokes gained putting when it's difficult and very difficult.
So I want to try to help my sample size be, a little bit larger, a little bit more predictive. If it says in this instance, like strokes gained, our three-putt is difficult. I'm probably in. Then going to look at very difficult and average at that point I'm going to. Then rule out things that are easy. So then we have the easy and very easy. So I'm going to rule out that. So it's it depends on where it is if it's very difficult I'm going to bring in difficult if it's just difficult I'm going to probably bring an average and very difficult that's just kind of how I do it to kind of bring in samples right like this strokes gained is very easy. So I want to look at very easy. Easy, I might even look at average, depending on what the sample is. I want to rule out not instance anything that is difficult to gain on approach. So I wouldn't just look at the answer that we have here because from year to year, some of these things could be on, like.
The edge of being in the other bucket, so bring in the other bucket if that makes sense. Right? We have to have a, a line of demarcation where this gets classified from difficult to very difficult. But, like, if it's a point, one percent difference. Well, I think I'd be foolish to not look at the other bucket if that hopefully that makes sense to you viewers listeners. I think just.
You don't want to hyper focused small sample where it's not really predictive at all. You don't want to open it up where you're you're just kind of looking at random rolling strokes gained stuff if you're trying to recreate what the test is for the week that's why even like less than driver I want to look at mixed as well and basically I'm trying to rule out driver heavy. So hopefully that helps that's how I utilize the sheet just knowing that from like year to year depending on how the course played there could be some stuff that ends up having some nuances that's a little bit closer. So hopefully that helps you and you're making your decisions into how to model. But I would use that course stats page is a really key piece in trying to get the answers to the test of how you want to go in and start to do stuff for the week.
